Today I got the chance to speak one to one with the new owner of the Jardin Tropical Restaurant. His name is Nicolas or Nico for short, he is French and along with his native language he also speaks, German, Spanish and of course English. Nico has lived in Lanzarote since 1969, has also lived in La Palma for a short while and is now settled in Guime, which is situated in the centre of Lanzarote. Nico’s previous restaurant some four years ago was situated in Tiagua and was called the Taberna Strelitzia. He has also owned and run a one star Michelin restaurant in Cannes, France. In all Nico has twenty six years experience in the restaurant trade. His sister Ludivine arrives in the next few days to work along side him in this new venture here in Charco del Palo. Nico did his training as a pastry chef and he has plans to have at least five dessert choices every day, (I can feel the hips getting bigger just thinking about it), Profiteroles, Tarte Tatin, these are just two of the things that he mentioned. He plans to use fresh and seasonal produce when ever he can to create different menus, which will include tapas, entre, main course and lastly desserts. To compliment the food he is importing French wines, including Chablis and Pouilly-Fumé to name but two.
I hope this has wet your appetite a little, and if you are in Charco del Palo in a few weeks time then you will be able to sample the food and wine and hopefully leave me a comment or two.
