Ville de Teguise is the old capital of Lanzarote and hosts the biggest market every Sunday from 9am till 2pm. Along with all the normal market wares, i.e. bags, belts, table clothes, wooden animals and jewellery you will find a wealth of other goodies to spend your euros on. This is a vibrant market and well worth the visit if only for an hour or so. During the week this sleepy village retains all its charm and atmosphere and you get to appreciate just how nice it is. There are lots of retails shops open during the week although you may find that on Mondays most will be closed, and also siesta will be observed meaning some will close as early as 1pm latest 2pm either for the day or to re open at 5pm. Check out the Chinese Theatre for lots of goodies and you really do want to find this one. Check out Bar Cafeteria La Tahona which serves some great tapas and Patisco (hot filled roll with bacon, tomato and cheese). One other place of interest is the Castillo de Santa Barbara which is a museum dedicated to Pirates.
