Its carnival time in Lanzarote. Arrecife kicks off the celebrations with a week or more of fun and festivities. The main procession in Arrecife is on Monday 27th February followed by the Burial of the Sardine on Wednesday 1st March, this is a smaller procession than Monday's and ends with the burning of the sardine and fireworks. On Saturday the 25th February you also have Feria de la Tapa at the Parque José Ramirez Cerdá. (Arrecife seafront) This is normally a really nice event to attend, no processions or anything, but a great atmosphere, sorry and I am a bit late telling you about it, but as you can see from the poster wine and tapas are all 1€ along with music and fun.
Puerto del Carmen's main procession is on Saturday 4th March. It normally starts at about 17hrs and takes over the whole seafront at Puerto del Carmen. If you feel in the party mood then make your way to the old town and dance the night away. There are processions in all the main villages in Lanzarote during the month of March, if you need more information please contact me. Happy Carnival everyone. Summers on it way.
If you feel like a run out to Costa Teguise and fancy a bit of lunch then I can highly recommend Guachinche de Luis. This small family run business is situated along the Avda. Islas Canarias in Costa Teguise, (this is where the post office is and all the parking look for Centro Comercial Las Maretas). If you know where the Hiperdino supermarket is then the cafeteria is just opposite. We often pop in for some tapas, I love the Albóndigas (meat balls), Ensaladilla Rusa (russian salad) and of course Alan's favourite is the Tortilla española.
Breakfasts are served from 7am, including full english, toasties, croissant, sandwiches, rolls and baguettes.
From the tapas menu (remember to go inside and check out whats on the counter) choose from Papas arrugadas con mojo, Albóngigas, Queso fresco, Tortilla española, Calamares, Ensaladilla rusa, Gambas al ajillo, Estofado and Salpicón de pescado.
There is also a daytime and evening menu to choose from, 2 starters dishes, 2 main dishes, bread + dessert or coffee and water / glass of wine of small beer. Daytime price 8,90€ Evening 11.90€
Well worth a visit.
