So last week being my first week of retirement we gathered some friends and went walking in Timanfaya to the Caldera del Islote de la Vega. We parked at El Golfo then set off back up the road a few hundred metres then took the track into the wilderness. Along the way we walked past a house and were met with a charging donkey. Thank goodness there was a wall between him and us, he moved at a hell of a pace.
You can see the volcano behind us, the climb to the top was very steep but keeping the pace slow we all made it to the top.
Once we had all caught our breath we headed down into the crater and out the other side. We continued down a dirt track until we came to a black sandy beach where we had lunch. Time to climb again and this time the walk took us up and along the cliff top back towards El Golf. The last part of the walk is not hard but its rocky and seems to go on forever. You really do need a good pair of walking boots for this bit. Thanks Mick for being our guide today.
